One of the farmers I know tells the story of a meeting he attended. A group of farmers were discussing the low prices back in the farming crisis of the 1980s. One farmer stood up and said, “Even with these hard times, God’s been good to me. I’ve been able to buy everything I’ve wanted.” The other farmers were shocked and wondered how this man could be doing so well. Amid their protests, he raised his hand to get their attention before he spoke again. “I’ve been able to buy everything I’ve wanted, but occasionally, I’ve had to adjust my wants.”
This farmer is right. Often, we have to revise our wants. In doing so, we realize God’s umbrella of generosity will provide for our needs and our wants.

Thank you, Father, for generously giving us what we need in life. Remind us that we may have to adjust the things we want from time to time to fit into your will. Amen.
Reflect: How may you have to adjust your wants to fit in with the life God has given to you?
