A Weighted Blanket

Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings!

Psalm 61:4

After reading how weighted blankets can help settle one to sleep, I began adding a heavy throw blanket on top of our bedspread. Yes! The extra weight is comfort- ing. Imagine that! Weight is a blessing, not a burden.
God’s presence is like a weighted blanket, a blessing, not a burden. Sure, God knows our every thought and feeling, even our selfish and angry ones. If we weren’t Christians, we might fear God knowing everything about us and reject God’s presence—as if we could ever hide from God. But we are Christians, and know that God loves us unconditionally. We welcome the weight of his presence, which encourages us to follow his lov- ing ways. The weight of God’s presence is holy peace, which calms our restless souls.

Loving God, your presence always comforts me. What a joy to know I am never alone. Amen.
