Jesus said, ... unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter into the kingdom of heaven.
All grandparents have come to realize that when our grandchildren visit us, our daily routines change, and we ask ourselves, “What interested us when we were six years old?”
Lately, I thought about the fun things my father taught me: Ah, yes, the slingshot. The one that is made of a green branch of a tree that looks like a big letter Y. We needed to cut up an old inner tube that once was inside a car tire. The two rubber strips needed to be tied tightly to the two ends of the Y. Then, a leather pouch was attached to the ends of the rubber strips. It held the stone that the sling shoots toward the target.
My grandson was fascinated, as I struggled to make it work for him. All this gave me an opportunity to
speak to him about Jesus and how much he loved children.
O Lord, open my heart to speak tenderly to children I encounter. Amen.
