…you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.
The crowd rushed around, searching for Jesus. They took boats to the other side of the Sea of Galilee to find him. Yet they were seeking the Lord only because he had just fed them all—more than 5000 people—with a few loaves and fish.
Like that well-fed crowd, we too may spend time searching for earthly things that provide only tempo- rary satisfaction. The miracle of loaves and fish points us not to earthly bread, but to Jesus, the Bread of life. Finally, on that same day, the crowd asked the right question, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” (John 6:28). Jesus gave an answer we need to hear too: “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent” (John 6:29).
Jesus, Bread of life, teach us to look for you throughout the sacred pages of your Word. Amen.
Study: As you read Scripture, look for the ways in which the Word points to Jesus.
