Upon the Solid Rock I Stand
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken ...
Hebrews 12:28
I have three children that live in California. All have experienced that strange feeling of the earth shifting beneath their feet. My parents lived in the Midwest. Their home was completely destroyed in a tornado as they sat in a hallway and experienced the destruction firsthand. I don’t know anyone personally who sat through Ivan, the monster hurricane that leveled Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, but that had to have been terrifying.
In Hebrews, St. Paul reminds us to be grateful for a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Let’s join the hymn writer and choose a firm foundation: “On Christ, the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.” When we build our lives on Christ, the storms of life can neither harm us nor shake our faith.
