Who Wants to be a Servant?

May 25, 2024    Neal A. Orabka

Who chooses to be a servant? Why would a person make such a choice? The world looks much more favorably upon people who are the opposite of servants. The outlandish, the grandiose, the “hey, look at me” personalities receive attention and adulation. Paul is one who identifies himself as a servant. He understands that his role is not to draw attention to himself, but rather to Jesus Christ. His letters are filled with descriptions of his relationship to Jesus and how that affects his way of life. Rarely does he talk about himself or his past.

What does it mean to be a servant today? Servants today take time. Servants are attentive to those who live alone or feel isolated. Servants volunteer. A servant helps. Servants do more than the minimum. True servants look for ways to serve. Have I described you? If not, why not?
