The Advocate

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.

1 John 2:1

Were your children always obedient? Of course not. But with every incident of disobedience, Christian parents apply both forgiveness and a lesson to be learned, so next time ... maybe there will be a transformation. John wrote to new Christians as if they were his children, reminding them about forgiveness. What a transformation he described. There is Someone who stands up for us. He refers to Jesus as our Advocate, speaking on our behalf to God, the Father, because he already paid for our sins.

As children of the Heavenly Father, we strive to be obedient. And when we fail, we are forgiven and remember Jesus’ words, “Go and sin no more.”
