The Hilarity of Giving
Sep 13, 2023 • Jan Bathke
When we were growing up, my siblings and I learned that “the Lord loveth a cheerful giver.” “Cheerful” actually means “hilarious!” Our mother taught us the hilarity of giving to Jesus first. If we received a ten dollar bill for our birthdays, she exchanged the bill for ten singles. Then we put two dollars in our Jesus Box. When we gave our offering at church, we were happy that we could give back to Jesus what was already his.
Remember the widow’s mite? Her gift was more of attitude and worship than amount. Talk to your children or grandchildren about the hilarity of giving and the importance of a joyful attitude. They will then learn that it’s fun to give back to the Lord a share of what he had given them.
