How Long?
O Lord, how long shall I cry for help ...
Habakkuk 1:2
In the Old Testament, Habakkuk asks a question we often ask, “How long?” He was distressed over his present conditions and wanted God to act.
What is your “how long”? Are you waiting for God to resolve your difficulty? Are you waiting for medical test results, financial provision, or a loved one to know Jesus?
In prayer, Habakkuk acknowledges, “O Lord my God, my Holy One,” and affirms God as everlasting, sovereign, and his rock (1:12).
God chose to answer Habakkuk in a different way from his request. But that didn’t change his trust in God. In our challenges and trials, with God as our rock, we can securely rest knowing he does what’s best, fulfilling his plans for us, and for his purposes and glory. Habakkuk’s conclusion in trials can be ours.
