You Will Have Trouble

“In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33b

In my younger years, when things went wrong, I thought, “Something is wrong here!” Since then, I’ve learned that’s life; trouble is a normal part of living in this world.

Life’s troubles can give birth to frustration and despair. The words of Jesus, however, can give birth to faith, hope, and peace. We do have to wait — patiently and faithfully — for the final, victorious fulfillment of God’s rescue for us, but we can wait with assured hope and peace.

Turn your attention away from the trouble that threatens to overwhelm you. Turn instead to the words of Jesus and “take heart” because your Savior will not fail to bring you through this trouble too.
