Flexibility

“... you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses ... to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

Are you, like I am, a person who lays out your daily schedule at the beginning of the day? It’s a good feeling to say at the end of the day, “Ah, I did what I set out to do this morning.”

But then, on many days, the unexpected happens, we receive a telephone call from a high school classmate that we haven’t talked to in a decade, a neighbor needs help, or a friend just needs a listening ear.

Search the Gospels. How did Jesus’ days develop? Does he ever lay out his daily schedule? No. He knows that whoever he encounters, there will be time enough. He will win for them forgiveness through his death

on the cross, and their final defeat, death, will be conquered by his Resurrection.
